Sans Soucis Typeface
TYPEFACE DESIGN I PERSONAL PROJECT
As such, type designers can go beyond choosing a “good” typeface for the brand, we build the right typeface from the ground up. A custom built typeface is the ultimate tool in creating the right tone of voice and I believe every brand needs and deserves one.
“Sans Soucis” was born as the flagship typeface for my personal branding, including all body text on this website.
When I set out to develop “Sans Soucis”, I had the intention of creating a highly legible typeface with a personality. The difficulty turned out being balancing “personality” and “legibility”: improving on one usually meant deteriorating the other.
In the end, the push for legibility is the very thing that became its character: squat curves, large open counters and an increased x-height
To assure good legibility, I printed sample texts at several stages in the design process. With a magnifying glass I was able to spot problem areas where glyphs had become hard to read or where kerning required more attention.

Though development on Sans Soucis is far from done, as of now it has become what I wanted it to become: A typeface that is available to me whenever and wherever, free of license fees or legal issues while communicating my message the way I want it.
It is in essence a typeface without worry. Or as the French would say: “Sans Soucis”.
